About this work

Anzac, the Landing

Boats grind onto a shingle beach under fire. Anzac, the Landing by George Washington Lambert packs the shore with figures hauling toward the scrub, smoke drifting low across the water. Lambert paints the scene in browns, steel blues and chalky highlights, the hills rising pale above the packed barges. Horses, packs and rifles crowd the foreground while small craft buckle against the pebbled shallows, each figure caught mid stride. A weighty choice for a study, library or hallway where war history and narrative painting have a natural home.
