Andante (Sonata of the Sea)

Long swells of blue-green water roll in measured ranks across the surface, each wave crest catching a pale haze of light. Andante, from the Sonata of the Sea series by Mikalojus Konstantinas Ciurlionis, treats the ocean as slow music made visible. Layered washes of cobalt, teal and pearl-grey build the water in receding bands, the brushwork soft at the horizon and firmer in the foreground troughs. Foam curls along the nearest crest in loose, feathery strokes. The palette stays cool from edge to edge, broken only by faint silvery glints where light strikes the moving ridges. Suited to a study, reading nook or bedside corner, where its quiet rolling rhythm rewards long looking.
