Alyscamps

Cypress spires rise from the ancient burial avenue at Arles, their dark flames stacked against a pale Provençal sky. Alyscamps distills the Roman necropolis into a stark vertical rhythm, stone tombs and funerary monuments lining the famous alley of the dead. Vallotton simplifies the scene into bold masses, the Nabis instinct for flat decorative pattern turning grief into geometry. Deep greens dominate, cut by warm stone tones and narrow shafts of light between the trees. Fitting in a hallway, study, or reading nook where quiet gravity suits the room.
