Alley of Poplars

Two rows of poplars march down a lane, their pale trunks catching low light while the path narrows toward a hazy horizon. Gustave Loiseau built this alley in short, layered strokes of green and violet. Brushwork gives the foliage its texture: dapplings of olive, viridian, and soft yellow where sun breaks through. The trunks read almost white against deep shadow, and small flecks of pink warm the road edge. Grass along the verges turns blue in the shade. A hallway or stair landing gains depth from that receding perspective, the long view drawing the eye forward and quieting the space around it.
