Alley in the Wind

Wind takes the alley first. Every trunk along the path bends the same direction, crowns blown sideways, branches streaming like pennants down the whole length of the avenue. Arkady Rylov paints the gust itself as visible weather, not merely its aftermath. Bare limbs rake across a pale, fast-moving sky in thin dark strokes, while the ground holds cool violets and storm blues brushed wet into wet. Patches of raw canvas flicker through the foliage where the brush ran dry, and the path itself curls back in one pale sweep, receding into scattered light. The whole surface moves. A hallway or stair landing carries this energy well, anything transitional where a restless landscape belongs.
