Agrs Pavasaris

Bare birches stand over thawing ground in Agrs Pavasaris by Vilhelms Purvitis, the Latvian landscape master who painted his homeland through every season of snow. Water pools between dark furrows, catching a low sun. The snowbank at the field edge has gone grey and granular, its crust breaking into ochre where soil shows through. Distant trees hold a faint violet haze, and the sky above them carries that thin, washed blue that only appears in the weeks before leaf. Suited to a hallway or a quiet reading room, where the last cold weeks of the year still feel close.
