Agave

A spiky agave fills the canvas, its leaves radiating from a pale heart in cool blues and soft greens. Borisov-Musatov paints the plant as a subject in itself, not background scenery. The rosette spreads wide across the surface, each tapered leaf edged in shadow and catching light along its ridge. Muted tonalities of grey-blue and dusty sage give the plant a sculptural weight, the brushwork slow and deliberate rather than quick. This quiet botanical study suits a sunroom or reading nook, anywhere the day moves slowly.
