Abstract Composition

Blocks of cadmium red, cobalt yellow and deep blue press against each other in this abstract composition by Bart van der Leck. Nothing is representational, yet everything feels deliberate. Each plane sits flat against the surface, edges trimmed by heavy black contours in the manner of the De Stijl school. The geometry holds its balance through color weight alone: one red rectangle anchors the lower field, yellow fragments scatter upward, and a band of black locks the whole grid in place. Paper texture shows faintly beneath the gouache-like density of the pigment. A strong choice for a study, hallway, or any modern interior with clean lines and little clutter on the walls.
