Abramtsevo. The Bridge. Drawing for the Painting Bridge in Abramtsevo

A low wooden bridge crosses slow water, its posts and rail set down in quick decisive marks. The sheet is the drawn study for the painting Bridge in Abramtsevo by Pyotr Konchalovsky. Graphite lines darken where the banks crowd in, crosshatched shadow pooling beneath the span while the river surface stays nearly bare paper. Tree masses at each end grow from short rhythmic strokes, and the sky is left open, so all the weight rests on the structure. Suited to a reading nook or entryway, where the silvery greys and unhurried riverside calm give the eye somewhere quiet to rest.
