A Rushing Sea of Undergrowth

Green growth surges forward like a tide. Emily Carr painted the Canadian rainforest floor as something alive and moving, and A Rushing Sea of Undergrowth shows exactly that: dense vegetation rolling toward the viewer in waves. Every inch is foliage. Deep viridian and near black blues pile into gnarled tree trunks, their edges bent and swept by unseen wind. Swirling brushwork makes ferns and salal blur together, the canopy closing overhead in thick curved strokes while shafts of pale green break through at the center like light finding a gap in the crowd. Hang it where green belongs: a sunroom corner, a hallway with wood floors, or a reading chair that needs a window into the coastal woods.
