A Cove at Sevignies

A cove at Sevignies folds into itself, water turning green where the shallows catch the sky. Gustave Loiseau worked this stretch of coast in short, loaded brushstrokes, the kind that leave each wave and grass tuft standing separately on the surface. Look closely and the structure shows through: blue and emerald dragged over pale ground in the water, ochre and moss along the bank, small dark notches marking rocks at the inlet edge. Nothing is smoothed over. The paint sits in ridges, letting each color keep its own voice, so the light seems to flicker between strokes rather than settle on one tone. Coastal light like this belongs in a stairwell, a hallway, or above a reading chair where the eye can rest on open water between chapters.
