A Church in Seda

A whitewashed church lifts its slender spire above the low rooftops of Seda, the small Lithuanian town Dobuzhinsky knew so well. This reproduction of A church in Seda keeps every line of his pen-and-wash hand. Look closely and the technique shows itself: fine ink crosshatching builds the shadowed side of the bell tower, while a pale grey wash pools across the overcast sky. Warm ochre touches warm the nearest gable. Bare trees scratch thin black branches against the steeple, and the empty square below holds a silence the artist rendered in unhurried strokes. Suited to a study, hallway, or reading corner where quiet northern light already lives.
