Planks gone pale with weather, a footbridge crosses the Vorya at Abramtsevo, rails leaning just off true. Pyotr Konchalovsky sets the crossing dead center and lets the river run loud. Foliage piles along both banks in loaded strokes of sap green and viridian, broken by birch trunks in dry white flicks. The current below shatters the bridge reflection into wobbling ribbons of grey and ochre, while the far shore sinks into a cold bluish haze where the forest thickens. It suits a stairwell, a hallway by the garden door, or a study that could use the sound of moving water on a rain washed afternoon.
