Тишина

Frozen water lies over the whole scene. Тишина shows a river sealed under grey ice, banks stacked with snow, and a sky the colour of pewter pressing down on both. Nothing moves in it, and that stillness is the subject. Byalynitsky-Birulya builds the quiet out of small facts: a dark treeline stitched along the horizon, drifts piled in soft ridges where the current once curved, cold blue shadow pooled in every hollow. The brushwork sits close and dry in the snow, looser where the pale sky thins toward white. Warm ochre flickers on the bare branches, the only heat in the picture. It suits a reading nook or a study that needs a window onto cold air.
