Birches hold the last of their gold above a pond gone still, the water taking every leaf and trunk straight down into itself. Тихая Осень, Quiet Autumn, by Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya, records that hush between windfall and first frost. Cool grey-green water fills the lower half, mirror-flat, broken only by a few drifting leaves in ochre and rust. The far bank sits in soft umber shadow, birch trunks pale as chalk against it, their crowns thinned to scattered coins of amber light. Air hangs heavy, unmoving. A study wall, a reading nook, or a hallway that needs one deep breath of late October.
