Bare birches stand thin against a sky going soft grey and lilac. Сумерки Юного Мая. Byalynitsky-Birulya paints the first evening of May, that hour when spring light thins and the trees have not yet leafed out fully. Small green points crowd the branch tips, buds not quite open. The ground below holds last warmth, ochre and pale gold where the sun touched, shading to cool violet in the hollows. Water in the middle distance carries a single flat reflection, broken by reeds. The brushwork stays loose and honest, the kind a landscape painter uses when standing at the easel before the light goes. A quiet corner of a reading nook or a hallway table suits it, somewhere low light and cool color can finish the day.
