Melting snow gives way to bare earth in Ранняя Весна, a landscape by Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya where the first thaw turns a quiet river valley from white to brown. Cold water runs loose between darkened banks, and thin birches stand leafless against a pale sky already loosening toward blue. Patches of last snow cling to the slopes while the ground below softens into wet ochre and umber, every brushstroke laid wet against wet so the season seems to be happening as you watch.
