Low tundra light fills the canvas of Вечер в Тундре, a rare northern subject by Vitold Byalynitsky-Birulya. The hour is late but the sky refuses to go dark. Ochre and rose-ash brushwork sweeps across a flat horizon, broken by scattered boulders, low birch scrub and pools that hold the last of the sun. A narrow track curves toward a distant hut, its roofline barely darker than the ground. The paint sits thin and dry, almost sandy, the way permafrost feels underfoot. Suits a quiet study or a reading nook that faces north, where the muted light and open horizon do their best work.
