Willows in Fog

Bare willow trunks rise through white mist in this riverside scene by Gustave Loiseau. A single dark tree anchors the foreground while its companions dissolve into the pale distance, their crowns fading at different depths. Loiseau builds the fog from layered strokes of pearl, silver grey, and diluted violet, letting the willow bark stay rough and dark against the softened air. Short crosshatched touches suggest grass along the waterline, still wet and glinting. Everything recedes in measured steps of tone. Hang it in a quiet hallway or reading nook where morning light will meet the mist halfway.
