Slate-fronted houses lean over the old harbor basin, masts stitching a pale Norman sky. Felix Vallotton records the port in View of Honfleur with a level, unsentimental eye. Flat planes of grey and olive green build the water, broken by verticals of rigging and dark hulls. Quays run in sober ochre and brown, windows pricked black against chalky plaster, and a high white light presses the whole scene into stillness. It suits a study or reading nook dressed in linen and driftwood tones, a breath of salt air for rooms far from any coast.
