Trees in Bloom

Blossom crowds the branches of young fruit trees, white and pale pink petals catching spring light. Trees in Bloom shows Gustave Loiseau, the French post impressionist, painting the countryside outdoors. Loiseau builds the foliage from short, crosshatched strokes, a lattice of green over blue shadow. Lilac tones cool the grass while the sky behind the flowering crowns stays thin and cerulean. Trunks tilt at easy angles, each brushed in quick grey-brown lines. Set in a sunroom, breakfast nook, or stair landing, the scene carries the crispness of a country morning through every month of the year.
