The Rocks of Saint Lunaire

Granite boulders shoulder into the tide along the Breton coast in The Rocks of Saint Lunaire, a seascape Gustave Loiseau built from short, enmeshed strokes of grey and green. Wet stone carries rust and ochre where the water drains away. Foam breaks white against dark ledges, and rock pools hold slivers of pale sky. His crosshatched touch gives every surface a woven, weathered grain, as if salt wind had passed through the paint itself. It belongs on a stairwell landing or in a study facing north, where cool light and whitewashed walls keep attention on the water.
