The Quay at Pont Aven

Moored hulls and granite facades gather along the Aven, the riverside scene Gustave Loiseau records in The Quay at Pont Aven. A grey Breton sky presses close to the rooftrees. Short, loaded strokes of slate, oyster white and moss green build the water, where pitched roofs and a stone embankment double their reflections. Small craft sit bow to stern beneath shuttered windows, and cobalt glints through the damp overcast air.
