The Ham

A rosy ham fills the foreground, its glazed skin catching light like lacquer. The Ham, by Felix Vallotton, turns an ordinary cut of meat into a table centerpiece with monumental presence. A pale bone juts from the cut end, and a long carving knife rests across the cloth. Round fruit waits within reach, the shadowed background sits deep behind, flattening space in the Nabi manner.
