About this work

The Door of Bulagaio

An arched wooden door, studded with iron and sunk deep in weather-beaten masonry, commands the whole picture in The Door of Bulagaio. Felix Vallotton builds everything around that one dark opening. Vertical planks run in burnt umber, each stud head catching a bead of light, while the flanking wall breaks into flat planes of ochre and chalk. Noon sun strikes the stone straight on. Above the arch, a sliver of sky holds a saturated blue. Entryways, stair landings, and dim reading nooks all suit it; like its subject, it stops you at the threshold and keeps you there.

Information

Frequently asked

Yes — it arrives stretched over a solid wood frame and ready to hang, with hanging hardware included.

Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Pick the size that suits your wall and furniture. If you are unsure between two, the larger one usually looks better than expected.

Each piece is made to order and shipped free with tracking, usually within a couple of weeks depending on your location. See our shipping policy for details.

Usually not, but international orders can occasionally be subject to local import fees set by your country. Anything like that is set by customs, not by us.

As each piece is made to order, we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If it arrives damaged or faulty, email support@auvrique.com within 7 days and we will put it right. See our refund policy.
