The Belon River

Tidal water spreads wide across the estuary at low tide, its surface broken by pale bars of sand and mud. Gustave Loiseau sets The Belon River in Brittany, where oyster beds, moored hulls, and low stone quays trace the tideline. Loose, rhythmic brushwork builds the current in olive and slate, flecked with cream where daylight catches moving water. Soft Breton grey fills the sky, and the far bank dissolves into dabs of green and muted rose.
