Sunset, Gray Blue High Tide

A low sun burns copper above a tide running high and gray blue, and Felix Vallotton gives the whole meeting just a few flat, decisive shapes. The water carries long horizontal bands of slate and steel, broken near the horizon by that single molten disc and its smeared reflection. Clouds sit in muted violet and ash above the shoreline, their edges hard, almost cut out. Nothing is fussy: the sea reads as calm weight rather than detail, and the sky holds its color without blending.
