Small Farm at Vaudreuil — Canvas

A low Norman farmhouse settles into its own ground at Vaudreuil, rendered in the short, loaded brushwork Gustave Loiseau brought to every countryside he painted. Look closely and the surface does the work: flecks of cream and ochre stack into plastered walls, greens are worked wet into wet until the meadow blurs, and a tile roof carries dashes of rusted orange and violet shadow.
