About this work

Ruins at Souain, Sunset

Roofless ruins and heaped rubble hold the last light in Ruins at Souain, Sunset, a shattered village rendered by Felix Vallotton. No roofs remain, only jagged dark silhouettes. The painter flattens the destruction into bands of unmodulated color: rust and ash across broken ground, blackened stubs of houses, a sky graded from molten orange to bruised violet. Hard edges and cool shadow lend the scene a stillness that reads almost architectural. Hang it in a study or reading room where its deep ambers reward long looking, paired with plain plaster walls and low evening lamplight.

Dust it gently with a soft, dry cloth and keep it out of direct sunlight.

Pick the size that suits your wall and furniture. If you are unsure between two, the larger one usually looks better than expected.

Each piece is made to order and shipped free with tracking, usually within a couple of weeks depending on your location. See our shipping policy for details.

Usually not, but international orders can occasionally be subject to local import fees set by your country. Anything like that is set by customs, not by us.

As each piece is made to order, we do not accept change-of-mind returns. If it arrives damaged or faulty, email support@auvrique.com within 7 days and we will put it right. See our refund policy.
