Mont Blanc

Mont Blanc fills the horizon under a pale sky, its snowfields read almost as bare paper against the slope below. Felix Vallotton flattens the massif into broad planes, giving the peak the calm authority of a monument rather than a view. Look at the dark conifers climbing the lower ridges, small and stubborn against all that light. Cool blues and greys dominate, sharpened by hard contours and a stark contrast between white summit and shadowed valley. Alpine landscape painting at its most composed.
