Gabled rooftops climb a riverbank slope in Houses near the Eure, Gustave Loiseau. The post impressionist painter sets his small Norman town directly against the current, roofline meeting waterline in one quiet composition. Loiseau builds the scene in short, enameled strokes. Slate roofs read as blue grey planes, plaster walls shift from cream to faded rose, and the Eure itself carries broken reflections of green and violet. Trees along the bank thin out toward a pale sky, their foliage dabbed in loose crosshatching that keeps the whole surface breathing.
