Cliffs in Gray Weather

Pale cliffs rear up beneath a heavy gray sky, their chalk faces flecked with rust and moss where the sea has gnawed at them. Gustave Loiseau painted this Normandy coast scene with his signature en tremblant touch, short jittery strokes that make the whole cliffside shimmer. Sea foam breaks white against the base. Gulls scatter as small dark flecks. Clouds drag low, bruised violet at their bellies, pressing the light down onto wet grass along the clifftop. A study or hallway with cool north light would suit it well, the sea-salt mood deepening beside linen and weathered oak.
