Copper and rust trees crowd the banks of the Eure, their color doubled in slow green water. By the Eure River in Autumn shows Gustave Loiseau working with short, layered strokes of oil paint. Small crosshatched touches build the surface, grey and moss green underneath, then vermilion and madder where the leaves turn. Reflections shatter into flecks of ochre across the moving current, and thin willow branches stitch dark lines through the pale, high October sky. A study with dark shelves or a hallway in soft daylight suits it; the burnt palette reads warmly against linen, stone, and bare plaster walls.
