British Industries. Steel

Molten steel pours from a great ladle, a ribbon of white fire against the foundry dark. Richard Jack painted the heavy industries of Britain at their most elemental, and here the furnace itself takes the leading role. Sparks scatter across a floor of shadowed iron. Mill workers in dark clothes stand dwarfed by the machinery, their faces lit from below in orange and ochre where the glow reaches them. Smoke thickens toward the rafters, and the palette runs from ash grey to deep cinder brown, broken only by that searing molten core. A commanding subject for a study, office, or library, especially where leather, dark wood, and brass already set the tone.
