A dried seed capsule fills the frame, its spiky crown spread open like a small bronze lantern. Karl Blossfeldt photographed it against plain paper, and Art Forms in Nature 83 shows why botanists and sculptors studied his contact sheets side by side. Every barb and vein is rendered at magnification, the surface of each prickle catching light along one edge while the rest falls into soft grey shadow. The tonal range runs from near black at the stem to pale silver at the tips, giving the plant the presence of cast metal rather than living tissue. Hang it in a study, a laboratory corridor, or an entryway where detail rewards a close look.
