Horsetail stems rise in strict vertical ranks across plate 50 of Karl Blossfeldt Art Forms in Nature, each jointed column banded at every node like bamboo drawn by a draftsman. Silver-grey tonality carries the whole field: pale stems against deep charcoal, edges crisp as engraving, sheaths flaring into fine pointed teeth where the leaves break away. Blossfeldt photographed at magnification, so the plant reads as architecture, a rhythm of repeated segments climbing the picture plane.
