Barque on the River Hamme

A flat-bottomed barge rests midstream in Barque on the River Hamme, its dark hull doubled in water the color of tarnished pewter, painted by Worpswede colony founder Hans am Ende. Reed beds crowd the bank in olive and moss green, applied in quick wet strokes, while the gunwale carries a firmer line. The horizon sits low, so an enormous pearl grey sky does the heavy lifting. Where the current stirs, reflections fracture, and the boat seems to float between two weathers. Made for rooms with muted palettes and soft northern light, it settles into a study, a stairway landing, or above a writing desk in a quiet reading nook.

A stretched canvas: the image is printed on a cotton-polyester weave (300–350 gsm) and wrapped over FSC-certified wood stretcher bars. A hanging kit is included, so no frame or extra hardware is needed.

Dust with a soft, dry cloth only — avoid water or cleaning products on the canvas face — and keep it out of direct sunlight and away from radiators.

As a guide, a piece hung above furniture should span roughly two-thirds of that furniture width. If you are between two sizes, the larger option almost always reads better on the wall than expected.

Every piece is made to order, then shipped free with tracking. US and Europe/UK orders typically arrive in 4–9 business days; Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore and the UAE in 7–16 business days. A tracking link is emailed as soon as it ships. Full details are on our shipping policy.
